Care of indoor lemon.

Transplantation

Seedlings of lemon, orange and other citrus plants of 1-3 years old are transplantated in fresh soil every year. Adult plants - every 2-3 years. Lemons are transplanted at any time of the year, but the best time is surely spring. Attention. Transplantation of adult mandarins and oranges should be done a month before flowering. Seedlings of mandarin and other citrus plants are transplanted in spring before growth or in summer. If the adult tree of lemon (indoor kind) have 2-3 fruits, the tree can be transplanted without any problem. But if the tree is ill a little bit (after winter), it should be better to make transposition of remove fruits (well, 1 fruit can be saved). Soil The soil should be nutrient and friable. Neutral or weak-acid reaction Ph 6.0-7.0 COMPOSITION OF SOIL: 2 volume parts of meadow turf (light loam), 2 parts of leaf ground, 1 part of peat (specially prepared, bought in the shop) 1 part of manure humus and 1 part of heavy sand. This prescription is not the best one but certainly the most versatile. Citrus can not be named as very fastidious plants to the soil. The main condition is normal acidity of the soil. The tree will give less fruits in a case of using garden soil. Unfortunately, in some coastal areas garden soil is highly salted. Using this soil it could be grown only the citrus vaccinated on a special stock. Not every gardener-amateur is able to prepare correct ground mixture. Prepared soil can be purchased at the shop. But not every one is suitable. In counties of cold climates to this should paid attention. During purchasing note the date of manufacture. Expired ground is often spoiled. Watering CITRUS SHOULD BE WATERED BY THE TAP WATER SEPARATED FORM CHLORINE, WHICH HAS ROOM TEMPERATURE. IN WINTER WATER SHOULD BE A LITTLE BIT HEATED. Indoor lemons sould be compulsory fertilized. Trees MUST be watered with fertilizers 2-4 times per month. In winter, if the plant is "sleeping", fertilizing should be done once a month. Dosage - four-liter pot with the tree should be watered with 1 cup of the fertilizer. 1 variant of fertilizer Fresh horse manure should be diluted 1:1 with water and abandoned for 5-7 days in a closed jar for fermentation. Before watering the slush should be filtered and diluted 1:10 with water. In addition, twice a year, in summer, plants should be watered with a green vitriol in proportion 3 g. per litre and eith a very weak, slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate 0.2 g. per litre. Cow manure is worse and before watering it should be diluted 1:15 with water. 2 variant In recent years, instead of manure the mineral fertilizers with microelements were applied. 2-3 grams of fertilizer should be dissolved in a litre of water. Universal fertilizer "CITRUS BLEND" has the following composition: N 14%, P 16%, K 18%, Fe 0,2%, Cu 0,05%, Mn 0,1%, B 0,04%, Mg 2% From the range of fertilizers which are in stock today I recommend fertilizer KEMIRA-KOMBINPK 16-21-27 and liquid fertilizer FLORTISFORCITRUSNPK 6-7-8. Today, you can also buy a natural fertilizers made from biohumus. These fertilizers are particularly suitable for sick plants. Most of the other fertilizers are not suitable. DO NOT BELIEVE SUPER ADVERTISING. During purchasing always make sure that the composition of the solid mineral fertilizer is similar to the one shown above. Attention! Very important! IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BURN OFF THE ROOTS, POUR THE PLANTS WITH A BIG QUANTITY OF WATER HALF AN HOUR BEFORE FERTILIZING. Lighting The most important thing is the light; soil and fertilizers are less important. In winter, when daylight is short, it is desirable to keep citrus trees at a temperature of 7-14 degrees Celsius. Tree at this temperature "falls asleep" and does not require good lighting. If the tree is grown in a warm room with air temperature +19 ... +25 degrees Celsius, it is desirable to IRRIDATE IT IN ADDITION to make the total daylight 11-12 hours a day. (If you want at this temperature economize in lighting - choose the most unpretentious kind of plant. Such tree will be ill a little, but will not die.). The best way of irridating is using fluorescent lamps with a special light spectrum. FLORAL18W/77 by OSRAM, TLD 18W/89 by PHILIPS or NATURAL18W by PAULMANN, but especially do not bother about that. Any fluorescent lamp will be suitable. For example 840, 842 spectrum. Tungsten lamps with neodymium glass and mirror reflector are more suitable for decorative lighting of the plants. In greenhouses and conservatories sodium lamps are in use as the most cost-effective. Recently in sale LED lamps have been appeared. Today they are unreasonably expensive, but the future is certainly for them because this is the most economical source of illumination. The formation of the crown of lemon For the cultivation of lemons on the windowsill the crown should be shaped as a bush with a low bole in 12-20 cm (Fig. 1). Once again - to the lower branches should be at least 10 cm. Sometimes the high vaccination is specially made. (I had such kinkan. which looked very spectacular. Photo 2.) Tree branches stretch to the light form window, this is natural. For balancing the crown, the tree shuold be occasionally turned VERY CAREFULLY and not more often than 1 time in 2 years. If after 2 weeks you notice that the tree is not good - turn into previous position. I turn my trees in early summer, when they stay on the balcony.
